The beauty of orchids in the home

letstalk

As promised, I’m going to share with you my favorite plant that I like to have in my home all the time: the …………. ORCHID!  Captivating in their beauty and fascinating in their complexity, orchids are easily the most colorful and intricate of all flowering plants.

If you are unsure about the orchid color then consider a white or cream color.

The fascination with orchids started in 1818 with the well-publicized blooming of a spectacular lavender cattleya.  Wealthy collectors and commercial nurserymen put the plant on the market.  Today the plant is viewed by designers, wedding and party planners as the star of the show.

More than one way to use orchids. A gorgeous, radiant wedding dress with orchids insert into the fabric. This is a big WINK weddinggomania.com

I can remember the first time I came in contact with the plant thinking…..this plant is sick! If it where mine I would have put it in the garbage.  As the story goes, I grew up and now it is my favorite go-to plant. I usually have orchids throughout the house during the winter months.

Adding another green earth medium near by, such as a bowl filled with feather moss will give you a WINK!

Usually you can keep the orchid in very low light if you are not planning on keeping it over 6 weeks. If you want to keep it longer, you will need to give it a light source that will enhance growth.

Using multiple orchids in one pot makes an impact of color. The blue and white pottery pot can be used in any color room. I was staying at a J W Marriott in California this weekend and they had used a number of the green plant leaves with artificial blooms. There is a WINK there!
